What barefoot means on these two
On our shoes, barefoot describes a shape: a toe box wide enough that your toes lie side by side, and a sole with no raised heel. The knit Mary Jane flat does this in a stretch knit with an ankle strap. The water shoe does it in a stretch mesh with a toggle lace and six drainage holes in each sole.
We make no promise about what a flat sole does for your feet, and neither do the foot-care organizations we read. What you can count on is room: if a pointed or narrow shoe presses your toes together, these give them space. Order a half size up in the knit flat.
